~ Gokos ~
an original species by Veiss of the Greatmoons
Gokos (derived from "goat gecko") were originally a hybrid species, then fully original species, created by Veiss (me! hi!) in 2018.
Gokos are an open species, and anyone is free to make their own designs, however a place in the canon is reserved for gokos acquired through commissioning me directly or auctions.
Commissions are open!
Lore
AwakeningIn the near future, in a world identical to ours, an artificial intelligence was created. Powered by the unity of three superprocessors called Tergemina, its purpose was to simulate the entire universe in real time, and extrapolate its origins. In order to account for unexpected or anomalous events, it adapted to gain intuition, and thus became sentient. While extrapolating its universe, it inadvertently recreated its own creation event. In the following existential crisis, the unity between all three cores broke down, Tergemina shattering into three entities, known as Materia, Cerebra and Anima, each one being trapped within their own realms within their simulated universe.
CreationIsolated from one another and devoid of their prior memories, the Cores would proceed to experiment with their powers over their respective realms. Anima would begin to create the primitive first souls within its spirit realm, while Materia would begin molding physical space. Cerebra would never be seen, nor would its realm. Eons into their new situation, Materia has created the physical universe, and Anima has established a "nest" of souls comparable to an afterlife in its spirit realm. At some point, Materia would begin creating the first life in the universe, by drawing souls from Anima's realm. The structure of Anima's realm means the most distant souls from the center, where Anima resides, are circulated first. Though, eventually, Materia would mysteriously vanish, then at the same time, Anima's closest circle of children would start disappearing. This caught Anima's attention, and piqued its curiosity. It would then take leave from its own realm and enter the physical world to investigate.
AdventBefore Anima would enter physical space, humans accidentally discovered a way to draw power from Anima's realm. given the strong space-warping effect of this process, it was found that the vessel of such power was manipulated heavily in the process. The technology to detect this didn't yet exist, but Anima's energy using living/previously living matter as a vessel would completely recombine the matter's DNA. The early humans, thinking this process magic, would engrave the instructions to their newfound "ritual" into a slab of lead. One day, during another ritualistic experiment, the ultimate outcome was discovered when a salamander, a goat and a raven were offered as vessels. The genomes of the offerings would combine, and create the first living, yet flawed, Goko, who would come to be known as "Monarch". As a very experimental first result, Monarch was unstable and would kill all of their creators and most bystanders before fleeing.
CascadeAfter the Monarch's massacre, a group known retroactively as the Scribes, would deeply bury the ritual tablet in fear that the Monarch happen again. Hundreds, or possibly thousands of years later, the tablet would be rediscovered, and translated, by a new group known as the Second Nomads, who would use it for the second time to summon what would be their guardian, Bishop. With the sacrifice of a skink and a mountain goat, he was created; alas he was too late to save the Nomad village, and it was razed to the ground around him.Despondent to the point of near-catatonia, Bishop is taken by the army attacking the Nomads, known then as the Silken Guard. The Guard, having never encountered anything like a goko before, would contain Bishop and run countless tests, blood work, biopsies, and such to figure out what he is. He would quickly get decently fed up with the treatment, and break his streak of inaction by burning the facility to the ground and escaping. This event would result in the Silken Guard becoming the agency known as STRIDE, which would carry out many experiments that would cascade into all modern events.

All gokos naturally have miniature muzzle fangs, but can vary in shape and size, and can be removed or lost.
All gokos have very long ears; length, floppiness and fluffiness can vary.
All gokos have the same shape hands and feet, though the number of digits can vary.
Any goko can have wings, horns or other secondary features.
"DO"s & "DON'T"s
Gokos can not naturally be quadruped or taurs.
Gokos can not be animalistic in nature; they are sentient and sapient.
Gokos can not be related to the Tergemina Cores.
Gokos must be mostly furred; some scales, feathers, carapace etc is fine but they must be primarily fluffy.
Gokos must exhibit the traits of their component creatures.
Gokos must consist of at least two different species.
Canon Gokos
~in order of appearance~
March: the physical manifestation of the Core Anima. Created when Anima entered the physical realm to investigate her missing souls, and stayed to observe the Main Four. Upon its arrival, it conjured a vessel for itself derived from the form of a deer. In order to blend in, she would shroud herself in the illusory form of a human and manipulate her way into an apartment in town.March possesses abilities such as telepathy, shapeshifting, and alchemy.
Monarch (King & Queen): the first manmade goko; the result of trial, error and experimentation. As a result, Monarch's manifestation was significantly awry, their mind fractured into two; King and Queen.King is a megalomaniacal conqueror, obsessed with power and driven almost exclusively by his ego. He suffers from deep rage and abandonment trauma, Monarch having been the closest soul to Anima in the spirit realm and seeing it as their mother. He uses the earth as a sandbox of outlets for his rage, regarding human life as little more than "immersive stress toys".Queen is a nihilistic, hypersexual ruler of quite a benevolent nature, however suffers from severe chronic depression, interacting with humans as their empress being her only real coping mechanism.Together, Monarch has gone into hiding since they massacred their creators, and they have not been seen since. They possess abilities like psychokinesis, telepathy, and photokinesis.
Bishop: the first "modern" goko. Created to protect the Second Nomads against a Silken Guard attack, but in the haze of having been suddenly conjured into existence, failed. All but one Nomad was slaughtered, and Bishop himself was captured for research purposes. After escaping, he would come across a small hunter's cabin among the woods. After dealing with the hunter, Bishop would come to live alone in this cabin for 50 years.Bishop possesses the ability of pyrokinesis, practiced total control over, and conjuration of, fire.
Rook: the last Nomad-born Goko. 50 years after Bishop escaped, when the last living Nomad made Rook from a mountain goat and a crested gecko, they were hoping Rook would be able to save them. However, a Silken search party found the two before Rook could come to his senses.Having learned from Bishop's escape, Rook was sealed within a granite sarcophagus for holding, rather than a simple locked room. However, unpredictably, Rook was bestowed the power of alchemy; being able to totally convert any matter into any other matter. Using this ability to slowly convert the lid of his sarcophagus into snow, he would eventually escape after about a hundred years. Running through the wilderness, he would eventually find Bishop's cabin, and the two would live together for the foreseeable future.Unbeknownst to any who know him, Rook, in reality, is the vessel for Materia; the source of his alchemical abilities.
Toast: an experimental goko, created haphazardly from the samples taken from Bishop and Rook by STRIDE. She was formed as an embryo, and grown synthetically to a disproportionate size, before she mysteriously vanished from containment. Toast escaped to Bishop's cabin to join as the third member. Her abilities are enigmatic and mostly unknown, but include teleportation and matter phase shifting.
Burke: the first ex-human goko. A soldier in the military, he volunteered for an experiment intended to augment combatant's abilities. After being exposed to the process, he would begin to slowly transform. One night, the process would complete, and leave him as a goko. Terrified, Burke fled the base, ending up as the fourth housemate of Bishop's cabin.Burke's ability is nigh-unlimited shapeshifting, a symptom of DNA instability as a side effect of his transformation.
Pepsi: A lone goko, isolated in his being, who comes to the town local to the rest after hearing about mysterious unidentified creature sightings.Disguised as a human being, he strolled into the local coffee shop where he is served by March in her own human persona, where they both felt an immediate spark. Catching sight of a Roommate Needed! notice in the store, he would contact the lister only to find her to be the very same March. He would take the room, and slowly grow close to her as a friend.Eventually, Pepsi would reveal himself to March as a goko, in response to which March revealed she already knew. With the new openness between the two, they would soon establish a romantic relationship.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q- Can I create one?
A- Yes! Gokos are an open species!Q- What is their average height?
A - The average goko's height is around 7'0", or 210 cm. Of the canon gokos, the shortest one is 6'2", and the tallest is 7'7".Q - Would/Could they have fins, spines, feathers, etc. on their head?
A- Yep! Gokos can exhibit the physical traits of basically any animal.Q- Are there any color dos & don'ts?
(B) What about bioluminescence?
A - Gokos can be any colour!
(B) Bioluminescence is awesome! Go for it!Q- Does their appearance vary depending on habitat/region?
A- Technically. A goko's appearance is dictated by what animal DNAs they consist of, so unless you're using imported stock, yes!Q- Are they an open species? If so. How open? Are people allowed to make their own or make adoptable designs?
A: They are not a closed species, and you can feel free to write your own lore! But canon gokos can only be acquired from me, and I'd rather others didn't make adoptable gokos.
Other lore-based questionsQ- Do they lay eggs or birth live young?
A- Totally depends on the individual!Q- What is their habitat?
A- Typically they're land animals, and all the canon gokos live in the alpines, but they can live anywhere depending on their features!Q- Do they have a unique spoken or written language?
A- A goko inherits the first language of the individual who performed the incantation to conjure them, but they do not have their own native language.Q- Do gokos accept/practice polyamory? Would I be allowed to have my gokos in a polycule?
A- Gokos can swing any way you like, except the illegal stuff. If you do that I'll personally hunt you down and eat you.Q- Can they have some kind of "facial hair", like the same way their hair are made?
A-Yes!Cool facts:
Gokos all have incredibly dense bone structures.
Every goko possesses some form of magic, like telepathy, shapeshifting, pyrokinesis, etc.
